The Return of Our Lord Jesus Christ – Teaching Plan

Key Thought : The second coming of Christ gives the Christian religion its meaning. It is the event that fulfills all the dreams and hopes of God’s people.

Lesson 13, June 30, 2018

1. Have a volunteer read Isaiah 13:6,9.

A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B. Why will the second coming be such a surprise to the whole world, including the church ?
C. Personal Application : What choices can we make now to make sure we are on the right side when Jesus comes? Share your thoughts.
D. Case Study: One of your relatives states, “Why does the second coming of Jesus Christ not only bring deliverance but also destruction to all the cities and nations of the world?” How would you reply to your relative?

2. Have a volunteer read Daniel 2:44,45.

A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B What are the differences between the earthy kingdoms and the heavenly kingdom in Daniel 2?
E. Personal Application : Share with the class a list of what you find so important in this life that you really don’t want to give up and that you wish would be in heaven .
F. Case Study: One of your friends states, “How do we know this dream or vision that Daniel had really is going to happen like he says? It is hard to believe that God is going to destroy everything..” How would you reply to your relative?

3. Have a volunteer read I Corinthians 15:42-44.

A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B. What happens to the dead in Christ and those who are alive in Christ when He returns?
C. Personal Application : How does this hope of the second coming help you to deal with the idea of death? Share your thoughts.
D. Case Study: One of your neighbors states, “When Jesus returns, our Spirits will return with Him to get our physical bodies. And then we will be whole again..” How would you reply to your relative?

4. Have a volunteer read 2 Timothy 4:6-8.

A. Ask class members to share what the most important point of this text is.
B. Why does Paul say that his crown is set aside for him? Why won’t he get his crown until Jesus comes the second time?
C. Personal Application : What keeps you from keeping the faith and fighting the good fight? Is there anything worth sacrificing eternal life for? How do we set those things aside now? Share your thoughts.
D. Case Study: Think of one person who needs to hear a message from this week’s lesson. Tell the class what you plan to do this week to share with that person.
